SHIATSU

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu, which can be translated as finger pressure, is a manipulative therapy developed in Japan and incorporating techniques of anma (Japanese traditional massage), acupressure, stretching, and Western massage.  The therapy is often referred to as needle-free acupuncture as it involves applying pressure to special points or areas on the body in order to maintain physical and mental wellbeing, treat disease, or alleviate discomfort .  It  treats the whole person instead of a specific medical complaint.  All types of acupressure generally focus on the same pressure points and so-called energy pathways, but may differ in terms of massage technique. In Shiatsu, Anne sees the physical body, mind and emotions as individually connected by the network of Ki flow.

What are the benefits of Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is very effective for conditions where emotional disturbance or stress is an underlying factor. While this could be said to include all ailments, the most widely recognised conditions as stress related are, insomnia, anxiety and depression, muscular tension, headaches, digestive disturbances, menstrual dysfunction and low resistance to infection. All of these respond well to Shiatsu treatment. Shiatsu is also effective in the treatment of backache, synovitis, sprains and strains, neck and shoulder stiffness and joint pain.

What happens in a treatment?

Shiatsu is traditionally performed on a mat on the floor. The client remains clothed for the treatment. Working on the floor permits maximum versatility. Pressure can be applied with the knees, feet as well as the elbows and hands. A variety of stretches may also be used. Shiatsu may also be performed on a massage bed or a massage chair. The initial treatment involves an in depth consultation which takes into consideration the clients past and present health and lifestyle. The consultation helps to tailor the treatment to the clients specific needs.

What is the cost and how long is the treatment?

A Shiatsu treatment lasts for 90 mins and costs €60
